The faculty as a separate structural unit of the university exists since December, 15th 1992.
The task of preparation of teachers for modern school is put at the base of the faculty activity on such directions:
- Ukrainian Language and Literature, Ukrainian Studies
- Ukrainian Language and Literature, English Language and Literature
- Ukrainian Language and Literature, History
The system of approaches to the preparation of specialists at the faculty is coordinated with national educational program. The basic approaches are:
- Objective character and scientific validity of language and literature facts;
- historical method and succession in giving material;
- practical value of results of education;
- interdependence and complementarity of educational subjects.
The realization of the above mentioned approaches is done generally as the result of usage the newest linguistic and literature researches and modern methods.
The Professors and lecturers staff of the faculty is marked with high professionalism and pedagogical mastery:
- 3 Doctors of sciences (among them 2 academicians of native and foreign academies), 10 assistant professors, 6 senior lecturers, 9 lecturers.
There are 4 departments at the faculty:
- Ukrainian Language;
- Ukrainian Linguistics;
- Ukrainian Literature;
- Department of English language and methods of teaching it.
The departments are headed by:
- Pentylyuk М.І. – Doctor of pedagogical sciences, Professor, excellent worker of education of Ukraine, the head of the department of Ukrainian linguistics;
- Nagina V.О. – candidate of philological sciences, assistant professor, excellent worker of education of Ukraine, the head of the department of Ukrainian language;
- Gymenniy М.H. – Doctor of philological sciences, Academician of Academy of Sciences of Higher School of Ukraine, the head of the department of Ukrainian literature.
Because of raising of scientific potential of lecturers at the faculty there are:
- post-graduate studies;
- studies for obtaining doctor’s degree;
The faculty departments maintain close relations with academic scientific organizations and other universities of Ukraine. For giving special courses and carrying out of seminars with students the leading scientists K.G. Gorodens’ka, К.F.Shul’zhuk, О.М.Bilyayev, N.J.Voloshina are invited.
For supporting the high level teaching disciplines of linguistic and literature cycles by the faculty lecturers methodical manuals and recommendations for students of day department and extra-mural educational form are worked out.
At the faculty old traditions of carrying out folklore, ethnographic and regional studies, dialectologic practices are alive. The faculty lecturers do considerable social work.
Oleksenko Volodymyr Pavlovych, candidate of philological sciences, assistant professor was elected the dean of the faculty.
