       The Gießen Centre for Eastern European Studies is the regional-studies research and teaching centre for Eastern Europe at the Justus-Liebig-University in Gießen. By combining cultural and socio-scientific research on Eastern Europe, the Centre provides an excellent basis for interdisciplinary research on the region. Against this backdrop, the Centre plans to offer a Master's degree programme in Interdisciplinary Studies on Eastern Europe. The programme will be notable for its interdisciplinary and international nature, as well as its emphasis on applied research.

            The Master's programme aims to:

-         acquaint students early on with interdisciplinary research on Eastern Europe including the Turkic-speaking regions;

-         provide students with a diverse, interdisciplinary and distinguished curriculum which covers current processes and transformation in Eastern Europe as well as Eastern Europe through history, beginning with the Middle Ages;

-         equip students with high-level academic skills in humanities and social-sciences methodology;

-         offer exchange programmes, guest-lecturer programmes, and lectures by national and international scholars;

-         offer students the opportunity to build a simultaneously research-based and job-oriented profile characterised by Eastern European expertise and an excellent knowledge of cultural, historical, legal, political and economic processes in Eastern Europe;

-         relate theory to practice by means of intensive projects and internships, whether in Germany or abroad;

-         prepare students for doctoral studies.

     Congratulations student of IV year Faculty of Preschool and Primary Education of Kherson State University Anna Manzhula with the release of Final of the Ukrainian education – methodical Contest on “To children about Chopin”, which was held in March and June this year the Polish Institute in Kiev to celebrate the 200 – year anniversary of the birth of Frederic Chopin, with the support of the Associations of Teachers “School without tears” ant the Institute of Innovations in Technologies and content of Ministry of Education and Scientist of Ukraine. Work of Anna Manzhula “Designer multimedia lessons “To children about Chopin”” was awarded first prize in developing educational materials for students of 5 - 9 class.

STP for students is one of the first cyclical Polish programs directed to young people from Eastern Europe. The program involves inviting distinguished students, aged 18-21, from Belarus, Ukraine, and the Russian Federation (from the Kaliningrad and Leningrad Districts) to participate in the study tours to Poland.

Students apply individually to participate in the program through a competition. The tours comprise small 10-person groups and are held twice a year – in the spring and fall.

The purpose of the program is to inspire the students to actively participate in public life and become aware citizens.

International Relations Office informs that according to the Agreement about Scientific and Cultural Cooperation between Kherson State University (Kherson, Ukraine) and Jan Dlugosz Academy (Czestochowa, Poland) the group of Polish students (5 people) has a fortnight educational practice from 11^th till 25^th of May, 2010 at Kherson State University. Students study at the Faculty of Pre-school and Primary Education and at the Faculty of Arts and Culture.

Students and teachers can post information of the forum concerning participation of the members of their families in World War II, their wartime photos, conversations with veterans, photo-reports about “Lessons of Fortitude”, publish their own papers and works dedicated to the memory of the Victory, share opinions on the military books and movies.

According to the Resolution of the Presidium of the Supreme Attestation Commission of Ukraine №1-05/03 of 14.04.10 the scientific journal ” Information Technology in Education” was added to the list of specialized scientific publications of Ukraine (pedagogical sciences), in which the results of dissertation works for the degree of Doctor Sciences and Candidate of Sciences (PhD)can be published.

       Europe Days in Ukraine 2010: the Call for volunteers has been opened! This year the Delegation of the European Union to Ukraine is organizing the Europe Day celebrations in Kherson, which will be held on the 22^nd of May.

       You have a chance to become a volunteer for one of the most prominent European events in Ukraine and work closely with many interesting people and partner organizations from the whole Europe. You will receive organizational team promotional materials, free lunch, and opportunity to attend the rock concert of the world famous stars and visit the European village.

The International Research and Exchanges Board (IREX) is pleased to announce a competition for the University Administration Support Program (UASP) supported by the Carnegie Corporation of New York. The University Administration Support Program contributes to improving administration in a selected number of universities in the following countries: Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Ghana, Russian Federation, and Ukraine.

The University Administration Support Program provides competitively awarded short-term fellowships for mid and senior-level university administrators to spend approximately eight weeks with counterparts at respected US public universities to work on specific university administration reform projects. While in the US the fellows are required to prepare a case study on the management issue addressed. The case studies are then published and distributed to universities participating in the program.

        We congratulate the student of Kherson State University Alla Vasilenko on the third place at the Ukrainian selection stage of the 8th International Olympiad on Turkish language which passed from 11^th till 13^th of March in Kiev.

        Alla Vasilenko has got the award from the Deputy Minister of Education of Turkey Mr. Salih Celik.194 participants from 18 secondary educational institutions and higher educational institutions of Ukraine competed for the superiority in knowledge of Turkish language, thus more considerably is the achievement of Kherson State University student, Vasilenko Alla who has taken the third place in competition  of  poem recitation.In this competition Alla not only has shown her talent, but also has shown knowledge of Turkish language, having carried out the test tasks faultlessly.

On March, 3, at 10.40 (lecture room № 254) an open lecture of Professor Gregory Gardner of State University of New York at Potsdam, on “Modern Business in the globalization” will be held.

From the 1st to 5th of March, 2010 Professor Gregory Gardner of State University of New York at Potsdam is visiting Kherson State University.

The purpose of the visit - training of faculty and students of KSU to State University of New York at Potsdam, discussions of the joint project "Summer School on the Russian language" on the basis of KSU.

From the 17^th till 22^nd of February delegation of KSU visited Evangelic Froebelseminar (Kassel, Germany) within the framework of trilateral Cooperation Agreement between KSU, Evangelic Froebelseminar and St. Elisabeth-Verein Foundation. The delegation of KSU headed by the dean of  Faculty of Pre-School and Elementary Education Professor Liubov Petukhova was in the highlight of Kassel, Marburg and Bad Arolsen community, where the annual theoretical and practical seminar took place for representatives of educational institutions and social establishments that take care of society development, pre-school education and social work “Step towards the fair Europe”. The delegation of KSU included the assistant professor of the Department of Pre-School Education Ksenia Wittenberg, the lecturer of the Department of Elementary Education Alla Vladymyrova, the head of the kindergarten №41 Natalija Kolin’ko and the representative of the family-type orphanage of Antonivka Lyudmyla Kryukovska. The Ukrainian delegation took part in the opening of the annual charity act “Hope for the Eastern Europe”. The purpose of the visit was to develop mutual cooperation and to exchange experience in the field of pre-school education at social establishments of different types.

On February 17th at 3 p.m., a seminar dedicated to the work of chairs in the Internet will take place in the conference room.

Warning! Due to maintenance jobs from February 10th to February 15th, the fifth building of KSU will have no Internet access (IAS, e-mail, and KSU WEB-site will still be available). From February 15th to February 17th, preventive activities will be held, so that KSU network will be unavailable, including IAS, e-mail, and KSU WEB-site.

KSU administration reports that, according to the letter of Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine # 4.5-32, issued on 12.01.2010, the specialty 6.050103 "Software Engineering" (branch 0501 - Informational Technology and Computer Engineering) is currently being licensed. In case the license is obtained, the univesity will announce it open for regular entrants for 2010-2011 academic year.

The university is being attested to increase the allowed volume of students for the specialty 6.040302 - Informatics (branch 0403 - System Science and Cybernetics).

The tasks were checked automatically using a software developed by Laboratory of Integrated Educational Environments of RIIT.

KSU signed the Cooperation Agreement with Baranovichi State University (Republic of Belarus, Baranovichi) which provides for the organization of professors’ and students’ academic mobility, exchange of methodological developments, scientific and methodological publications, organizing and holding the joint scientific and methodological conferences, symposia, seminars.

On Monday, November 30, Academic Council of Kherson State University awarded KSU winners of the 2^nd tour of Ukrainian student competition in disciplines and specialties of 2008/2009 academic year.  KSU students who showed profound knowledge of the subjects received letters of commendation and monetary bonuses.

We are very proud of our outstanding students and wish them all the best!

On October 19th, Kherson State University received a delegation from Evangelic Friobelseminar that took place in the "Friedrich Riobel's Education Center" opening ceremony at Faculty of Pre-School and Elementary Education. They also dicsussed plans of future cooperation. Among the activities there was a visit to a children's home of family type in Antonovka as well as to pre-school educational center №41.

On October, 27, at 14.00 (lecture room № 256) an open lecture of professor Robert Brown (Glasgow Caledonia University, Great Britain), on “International Economic and Financial Crisis” will be held.

Professor Brown has had a career in international finance with the Bank of England and with the international Monetary Fund. He has also worked extensively in Central and Eastern Europe for Price Waterhouse and the European Commission.

Lecture language – English. Power Point presentation with the lecture main points – in Russian. During the discussion interpretation will be provided.

         The festival is initiated by Folk Democratic League of Youth dedicated to the Day of Youth, eleven years on end. This time it will be in the unusual format of multifestival. It will include, escept the game «Student's Republic». tournaments on the games «Quest», «Mafia», «KVN Goblets», «Battle of DJs», sports events, etc.

         Struggle for the power in the sudent's country will last for 32 hours. There will be formed student's parties, election campaign and elections to the student's parliament and Kherson student's mayor.

         Besides hte politics, the students will be able to have a good rest. The evening program will be supported by well-known both in Kherson and outside DJs and  MCs. The ornament of the party will be the contest «The First Lady of Ukraine».

 Research institute of informational technologies of Kherson State University gained a competition and concluded the agreement with the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine as to the mutual running of the international project by Kherson State University and Johannes Kepler University of Linz (Austria) on the issue “Development of symbol methods and web technologies for the virtual centre of nonlinear resonance calculating”.

The selection of scientific publications is announced for “Information technologies in education”:  Collection of Scientific Papers of Kherson State University. The publication is planned in May. Papers are accepted till 2^nd of April 2009.

Test exploitation of new website of University begins.

Wi-Fi at KSU. Kherson State University has now a Wi-Fi network supporting 802.11b and 802.11g.
Access points are currently installed in the main building. Wi-Fi area coverage will be expanded soon.
There are three variants of network access: teachers, students and guests.
To connect to the network one should be authorized and obtain a user login and password.
Teachers should be registered at Department of Informational Technologies at the ground floor of the main building, and students – at the Students’ Professional Committee.
University guests need to registration, Internet access will be provided freely during conferences and official events.
Up to May, 5th guest access will be working in the test mode.
Technical details will be published soon at the university WEB-site. Registration and further access is absolutely free.

Study Tours to Poland is a program that brings students and professionals from countries of Eastern Europe to Poland. 1.03.2008 on the base of Kherson state university, ІІІ stage of the Allukrainian olympiad on informatics for pupils of 9-11 classes took place. First, for the verification of olympiad results, the system of automatic testing, developed in the laboratory of integrated leaarning environments of SRI IT, was used.
